LIVING AN EXEMPLARY LIFE

By Wendy Oliveras on Tuesday, November 17 2009

It is understood working hard in whatever career or job you have is the key to integrity and success.  After all, you have bills to pay, but sacrificing quality time with a significant other, family and friends as a result of working 365 days a year will certainly hinder your chances of being happy in your life.  Seek a good balance in what you do because without it, you may lose sight of what you truly enjoy and maybe even miss out on some really great things.  Realistically, working all the time is not the best way to be content and fulfilled in life.  The truth is that years will come and go and life will pass you by very quickly.

In analyzing the notion of work and play, play time can be anything you want it to be.  More particularly, it is part of spending quality time with those who are special in your life.  Take time off when feasible and go on a vacation; take up a new hobby; go to the gym and exercise; or take dance lessons and go out dancing to show off your new moves.  Whatever it is that you are interested in, go for it!  Maybe you always had a secret passion to do something different or learn something new, such as a new language, take up Tai Chi, or cook.  Everyone is unique and each of us has a desire or interest to do something different.  That’s the beauty of life.

Living an exemplary life means living a very good life and enjoying as much as you can whenever you can. Of course, work is part of life, but still try and eat healthy, exercise, meditate, travel, volunteer for something, play games, laugh, and listen to great music.  These things in life should not be taken for granted.  Working hard is commendable and taking pride in what you do is too, but don’t forget to enjoy the personal and intimate part of your life.  Who can honestly say one enjoys working 70 hours a week with no time for play on the weekends or not catching a movie and dinner with a friend or someone special.  The point is that no matter what you do in your life try to make time for finding the right balance.

Life is what you make out of it.  Don’t stay in a dead-end job and don’t stay in a dead-end relationship either.  Reassess what works for you and what does not work.  Make the necessary changes, think optimistically and seek your life balance between work and play.  You will regret it if you don’t…so, go out there and work hard, love right, but play harder.  Enjoy life to the fullest!
